A Day of Dhamma Contemplation
July 15 @ 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Dhamma Contemplation is a simple practice that enables us to enter into the Buddha’s teachings. It can be practiced individually, yet as a group practice it is singularly powerful at revealing layers of meaning in these profound early texts.
Participants begin by contemplating a short excerpt of the Buddha’s teachings offered by the teacher, and over the course of distinct practice phases engage one another, speaking the truth and listening deeply. Participants move from engagements with just the words of the text, then to the emotional resonances it evokes and present moment experience.
The process is more poetic than academic though the talents of the thinking mind are included. This is an exercise of the Second Factor of Enlightenment, Dhamma-Vicaya. It also helps to cultivate mindfulness of speaking which is very much needed in our interactions with others.
The leader will be Bhante Sukhacitto, a Theravada bhikkhu of 28 years and longtime friend of Bhante Rahula. He is a student of Gregory Kramer and has been leading these ID retreats for several years.
For this Daylong we ask participants to bring a bag lunch and or a potluck dish for shared lunch. Water, tea, coffee will be provided.
A free-will donation for the teacher is appreciated.
